highest security and privacy standards. We respect and protect
your personally identifiable information and do not use your
information in any manner not previously disclosed and accepted
in our privacy statement.
General Information Collection and Use
Anyone can visit Careersinmusic.ca's
site without disclosing who they are or revealing any personal
information about themselves. We track the Internet addresses
of the individuals who visit our site to analyze trends,
administer the site, track user's movement and gather broad
demographic information, but this data is not linked in
any way to individual personally identifiable information.
The information we collect creates a broad picture of our
population and is used to continually refine our courses,
identify the most popular areas of our site and improve
our services.
Individual Course Registration
Careersinmusic.ca collects basic contact
information (such as name, address, phone number and email
address) when you register for any course on our site, including
our free sampler courses. Upon registration, you must specify
a Student ID and Password that enables you to access a restricted
area of Careersinmusic.ca 's site, (the "Courses")
where the course(s) you have registered for is/ are stored.
An email confirming your Student ID and Password will be sent
to you as soon as payment for the course(s) is received by
Careersinmusic.ca. Once this confirmation email is received,
you may begin to access your Courses immediately. Your personal
information is only used for Careersinmusic.ca's internal administrative
and identification purposes. We do not share your information
with any third party. Personal information is stored on Careersinmusic.ca
computers and is only accessed by authorized Careersinmusic.ca
personnel.
Employer-Sponsored Course Registration
Careersinmusic.ca also collects basic
contact information (such as name and email address) and asks
you to specify a username and password when you register for
a Careersinmusic.ca course through your employer. In addition,
there are 10 employer-specific information fields that your
employer may request that you complete in the registration
process. If you are accessing a Careersinmusic.ca course through
your employer, you should know that all information gathered
by Careersinmusic.ca may be revealed to your employer. For
example, your employer may track your progress through the
course and receive reports of your tests and exercises. This
privacy policy does not extend to the use of your personal
information by your employer.
Changing Your Personal Information
We will provide you with the means to
update or change your personal information. You may review
and update your student profile at any time by entering your
Locker and clicking the "Set your Preferences" link.
Password and Student ID
You must enter your Student ID and Password
every time you access your Courses. Your Password and Student
ID serve as your personal key to Careersinmusic.ca courses.
Without this information, no other student or site visitor
can access your Locker or course scores. Lost Passwords may
be retrieved automatically by navigating to the Courses login
page and selecting the "Forgot your Student ID or Password?" link.
You can change your Password at any time by entering your Courses
and selecting the "Set your Preferences" link.
Cookies
Careersinmusic.ca uses a cookie to store
your login name. A cookie is a small text file, stored in memory
on your computer, that can be read by our system when you return
to our site. The cookies are encrypted and are used to keep
track of you as you move through our site and the courses.
Cookies provide you the ability to re-enter a course without
retyping your password and the ability to return directly to
your last accessed page in the course for a specific, predetermined
period of time. While cookies allow you ease of use by entering
your Password less frequently, there are no functional differences
if the site is accessed and used with the cookies disabled.
Chat and Discussion Areas
Careersinmusic.ca hosts chat and discussion
groups in our course environment. Any information divulged
in this area may be observed by other students and is not secure.
Your actual email address will be masked within the Careersinmusic.ca course
environment so that your student email address appears similar
to: "yourStudentID"@careersinmusic.ca. This format
is used to ensure that other students cannot obtain your actual
email address by simply enrolling in a course. Emails from
other students will be automatically forwarded from your careersinmusic.ca
mailbox to your actual email address. If you wish to preserve
the privacy of your actual email address, you must reply to
those messages from within the Careersinmusic.ca.
Encrypted Credit Card Purchases
If you use a credit card to purchase a
Careersinmusic.ca course, the credit card number is encrypted
as it passes over the Internet. Your credit card number is
not kept by Careersinmusic.ca or our computers. Once your transaction
has been completed, your credit card information is erased.
In this respect, buying a course from Careersinmusic.ca is
similar to a credit card purchase at any store. Careersinmusic.ca
does not keep your credit card number on file.
In addition, we are sensitive to the fact that
some users are uncomfortable submitting their credit card number
over the Internet, no matter how secure the environment. For
this reason, it is also possible to register for any of our courses
by phone or by printing out the course registration form and
then faxing or mailing it to our offices with your payment. Due
to mailing time, this method delays receiving course access to
the registered, but offers an alternative secure method of payment.
Course Evaluations and Surveys
All Careersinmusic.ca courses include
periodic quizzes and exercises to monitor your mastery
of the material presented. If you are taking the course
individually, the scores on these assessments are stored
with your personally indentifiable information and are
only accessed by authorized Careersinmusic.ca personnel.
If you are accessing the course through your employer,
your progress on the completion of the course and scores
on its assessments may be relayed to your employer.In addition,
we require you to complete a survey at the conclusion of
the course. This survey solicits your feedback and overall
impression of the course. The answers you provide to the
survey are only disclosed to authorized Careersinmusic.ca personnel
and are only used to help us improve our courses.
Communication
At the time of registration, you may
elect to receive additional communication from Careersinmusic.ca
regarding new courses, promotions and certain other targeted
information. You may choose to discontinue receipt of these
communications at any time by simply following the instructions
to unsubscribe included at the bottom of all such distributions.
Mentor Response System
Careersinmusic.ca employs subject
matter experts ("Mentors") to evaluate Student
responses to examinations, as well as respond to course-related
questions. This communication is initiated with a system-mediated
email exchange. Student information is masked by the system
during the initial roundtrip request-reply transaction,
however subsequent communications between a Student and
Mentor on the same subject occurs outside of the system
boundary and does not provide any masking of Student or
Mentor personal information (including name and email address).
Constant Network Vigilance
Careersinmusic.ca 's network administration
team constantly monitors our security systems to make sure
that your student account is safe and secure. All of your
information exists within our secure corporate environment.
Only employees who need the information to perform a specific
job (for example: database administrator batch-enrolling
students) are granted access to the personally identifiable
information.Further, all Careersinmusic.ca employees are
kept up-to-date on our security and privacy policies. At
company meetings, as well as at the time new policies are
adopted, employees are notified and/ or reminded about
the importance we place on ensuring privacy and vigilantly
protecting our customers' information. Finally, the servers
that we store personally identifiable information on are
kept in a secure environment.
Notification of Changes
If we make any changes to our privacy
policy, we will post the changes on our site so you are
always aware of what information we collect, how we use
it, and under circumstances, if any, we disclose it. If
at any point we decide to use personally identifiable information
in a manner different from that stated at the time it was
collected, we will notify you via email. You will have
a choice as to whether or not we use your information in
this different manner. Consent will be deemed to have been
given when we receive communication from you in response
to our email. We will use information in accordance with
the privacy policy under which the information was collected.
